It’s shopping time. Gifting time. Which means it’s wrapping time. But you know what’s a thing that actually happens at least once per year at my house? Someone gets the wrong gift. Why? No gift tags. Well, not this year.
I love when the Doctor reveals that he knows the real name of a character from our shared cultural experiences. See Santa AKA Jeff. What a great line. Doctor Who writers are the best at it.
Need some Happy Wholidays wrapping paper? You can download last year’s Happy Wholidays paper right here. Print. Wrap. Smile. Repeat. And if you want to use that cute glittery star on your packages, just go to your Dollar Store - you can find 3 for $1.
Happy Wholidays my friends! Remember, it’s not always the most expensive or most fancy or most high tech gift that counts. Sometimes, it really is the thought.
I’m so excited to finally spend some time with Katniss and Gale and Peeta again this week. Of course, I’m also excited to meet Finnick and Beetee and Johanna too. Tomorrow can’t really come soon enough, so if you feel the same, here’s some fun backgrounds to download to your devices.
A few months back, the astonishingly talented Natalie Willoughby sent me the sweetest email asking if she could create something for BGC readers and we agreed that Katniss was a kick-ass choice. Her Catching Fire inspired design is the perfect fit for this week.
Can I also just quickly say how happy I am that we now have Thursday night showings at regular hours? Working stiffs like me still love midnight premieres, but I hate them on Friday mornings. So yay to my tickets for 8:30 tomorrow night.
I know it’s not nice to brag, but sometimes a nerdy girl must. The truth is, a smart girl is just better at things. Life things. Work things. Fun things. Friend things. Game things. Just things. And I’m not afraid to show that off to other people. That’s why I made this:
Post this at your desk. On your wall. At work. Whenever someone walks in, they’ll know not to mess with you. Instead, they’ll ask what you’re reading.
Did you know there are lots of other great free printables in the Being Geek Chic archives? Check out (and download or print!) all those here.
If you’re a creative of any kind, just keep this in mind when times get rough.
I love how history gets preserved on the web. Access to information, especially rare or long lost information, is easier than ever thank to the web’s ability to retain and catalog beautiful historical artifacts. The vintage movie posters on Free Vintage Posters is one such example of this.
Here’s 10 totally free, print quality science fiction movie posters:
You are reading this blog. Chances are… you’re a nerd. Let’s celebrate that. I had a conversation earlier this week about how just truly annoying it can be to be a real fan of non-sporting things. Most people don’t GET it, try as they might. Yeah, they love Breaking Bad. But do they know what it’s like to stay up until three in the morning on a work night because they recently discovered that the lead actor of your favorite show will be appearing in a new science fiction movie as the villain and therefore, it must be decoded and determined and the truth must be out there somewhere. KHHHHHAAAAAAAAAN.
Since Comic Con, I’ve been struggling with this. I know it’s completely ridiculous, but I truly have a hard time being friends* with people who DON’T GET IT. It’s weirdly lonely when you really could give a shit about the Bachelor, the Housewives, the X Factor or any of the hundreds of other shows people watch or just absorb as audio video anesthesia to distract from the misery of the non-nerd life.
But this blog always reminds me I’m among friends. We’re just all very, very spread out.
*Except from my real life friends who indulge me in all my insanities. You know I love you.
