I announced last week that I was opening a Being Geek Chic shop. And I did! One thing I didn’t tell you is that book bags were on the way.
I’m sort of in love with all things Book Bag related. And while I carry most of my books around in Kindle form these days, I’m still amazed by how useful a tote can be for magazines, important documents and flats. And lunch. And coupons. Well, you get the idea.
In order to help spread the word about the store - I thought I’d run a giveaway. Here’s how you can win:
THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED!
One winner will receive one Being Geek Chic Book Bag via Society 6. The winner must email me and indicate which bag they choose at the time of announcement. The item you tweet DOES NOT HAVE TO BE the item that you choose.
As always, be kind to one another and tell your friends.
Happy Monday!
The fine print: I was not compensated to run this giveaway. In the interest of full disclosure, we feel you should know that the cost of the giveaway was covered by the (very small) marketing budget of Being Geek Chic. The giveaway has a value of $15. The giveaway also includes the cost of shipping to one address in the continental United States via the United States Postal Service. The views expressed here are my own and are not those of anyone else associated with any of the properties represented. Please follow the rules and be kind to one another. Thanks!
See that cute iPhone cover? It will fit on the iPhone 5! Even before the iPhone 5 has hit your mailbox. Now you can buy that and help fund this here website and let everyone know that you’re a future Martha Jones/Donna Noble type. How cool is that?
In all realness, I’ve decided to start a shop with Society 6. Let me tell you some reasons why:
1. I always wanted a super geeky iPhone cover that expressed my future career plans.
2. Making blog content costs money.
3. Making blog content takes time.
4. I don’t have a lot of time or money.
5. I love my readers and want to share more content with you.
6. I think you might like this stuff too.
7. Society 6 makes it so, so easy.
You may have noticed that I’ve been running ads for a while on the right sidebar and that has been going OK - But I hate how they add this ugliness to everything and are truly random. They’re unpredictable. So I started thinking: is there something that my blog readers might like to buy that I can offer? Something they might actually want? Or would just buy anyway?
And here’s the thing: buying something isn’t the only way to support this effort.
If you feel compelled, please help get the word out about these geeky items by:
1. Pinning the products
2. Tweeting about the products
3. Sharing them with your Facebook friends.
I really appreciate every single one of you and wanted to do something that not only added some geeky beauty to your life, but made it possible for me to start paying contributors, covering the cost of DIY materials and maybe even expand on the video aspect of things.
If you have an idea for a product - let me know. I’m open to suggestions and would love to spread more geeky goodness via stationary, laptop skins and iPhone 5 cases.

It was brought to my attention this week that commenting on this website is a bit of a trick. And I get it. Most people don’t want to log in with a Twitter or Facebook account and who uses Google + anyway.
I wanted to try and show you how you can use Disqus to comment with JUST a name and email address.
First, start by writing your comment. Whatever you like. Then, write your name in the Name box. When you hit “Post,” a new box will appear and ask you for your email. Type that in. At this point you can click the box to Register with Disqus, which is the program that runs the comments here. If you don’t want to - no biggie. Just hit Post. If you do, fun.
There is another option of course. You can follow this blog on Tumblr. Just click that little “Follow” button when logged into Tumblr and you can reply to posts that way.
Alright, we good? Thanks for all the commenting this week. You have no idea how stupidly happy it makes me.
The iPhone 5 will be 16x9
I was once internet shit-stormed when I complained about the fact that Apple products weren’t designed in 16x9. My logic was simple: any practical media sharing/viewing device should be in that aspect ration. Oh did the haters come to the yard. I’m so jazzed to get a new iPhone (P.S. I hope Society 6 will upgrade sizes ASAP for other iPhoners) and I have to say I TOLD YOU SO about the 16x9 issue. There. I’m good now.
Nathan Fillion is adorable
I think I miss Firefly more than I would otherwise because I don’t like that show Nathan Fillion is on now. He’s so great - but he’s better when combined with Whedon. Further proof, Much Ado About Nothing. Bromance in action. Their friendship sounds sweet and supportive. Further proof that Whedon is the best person in Hollywood.
And hey, I write things for Apartment Therapy: that’s awesome!
