Lady Geeks of the Week: GiGi & CC of We Geek Girls

    image

Meet GiGi and CC, the dynamic duo that make up We Geek Girls. Together, they blog about their adventures through geekdom—into the worlds of Doctor Who, all things Marvel, Disney, cosplay, Star Wars, geek fashion, Lego, geeky weddings, Lord of the Rings…you name it, the list goes on.

So get to know these amazing ladies and check out their interview with Being Geek Chic! They’ll tell you all about their passions, motivations, and inspirations for doing what they do.

Oh, and be sure to follow their antics on Twitter: @WeGeekGirls.

Q: How did you discover your passion for blogging about all things geeky?

GiGi: I was driving my friends crazy on Facebook with my constant geek posts, so after attending our first con in 2013, we decided to start the blog. It’s been an awesome outlet for meeting fellow geeks and to show our love of different fandoms.

CC: I had kind of a tumultuous twenties…I feel Iike I went through a major chameleon phase but thankfully, just shy of my 30th, I got back in touch with my roots (which are heavy in geekdom) and found a kindred spirit in GiGi. After about a year of liking every single thing each of us posted and shared on Facebook, we decided it would be cool to have a common place to share what we like. The result has been WeGeekGirls.

Q: Where do you find inspiration in life?

GiGi: I draw inspiration from my faith in Jesus and in just about everything around me — from art to music to nature, etc.

CC: Transparency is one of my focus words. Being vulnerable enough to share exactly what is on our minds and hearts, what we go through (no matter how wise or unwise) is a really beautiful thing. So, I guess I’m inspired by authenticity…living and loving what we want to and respecting those choices in others.

Q: If you could take any fictional character out for a drink, whom would you choose and what would you drink?

GiGi: Oh, this is a tough one. I have a whole list. I think it would be interesting to have cocktails with Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock. I want to learn the whole “mind palace” technique. Also, I think we would get along great.

CC: That is a very, very tough question…BUT since I believe he and I to be cut from the same cloth, I’d say Bilbo Baggins. We would both have a brew from the tried and true Green Dragon and we’d share stories. He would without a doubt have better ones than me ;)

Q: What would you tell your 13-year-old self?

    GiGi: To break it down:

    • Rule #32 – Enjoy the little things.
    • Live in the moment.
    • Be yourself and most important love yourself.
    • Enjoy your teenage years.
    • Don’t rush to become an adult; you have plenty of time to do that.
    • There are ups and downs in life, you just have to learn from it and keep moving.

CC: I would tell her that she doesn’t have to try so hard. She is beautiful, talented and super cool! She has friendships in place that will last a lifetime and the unfailing love of her incredible family. Most of all though, I would tell her to trust her instincts, they will not fail her. :)

Q: What’s the title of your memoir?

GiGi: “A Geek Girl’s Journey Through Life”

CC: “Shut Up and Dance With Me” My motto and goal for myself this year…tune out everything that doesn’t benefit my highest self and dance with what does!!
